Humpback Whales in Queen Charlotte Sound
A rare sight at the Grove Arm of the Queen Charlotte Sound occurred last Saturday afternoon. Two humpback whales, an adult and a juvenile, took a small restbite on their long journey from the feeding grounds of the Antarctic to the warmer northern waters where the humpbacks breed.
The two whales were spotted by a water taxi firm who then followed the whales journey up and down the Sound. A leisurely trip was taken by the whales with small breaks of playing, the whales entertained the onlookers by playfully breaching before setting off for there long journey to warmer climbs.
