Four/Five Day Classic Package
If you would like to walk the track on your own yet have all aspects of the Queen Charlotte Track walk booked and prearranged then this is the option for you.
Our Classic Package includes all accommodation (en suite, private rooms) daily luggage transfers, all water taxi transfers, a visit to a bird sanctuary island, daily packed lunches and a full information kit. We will even pick you up from you accommodation in Picton and take you back there when you finish your walk.
Your lunch is included every day and the lodges have restaurants for evening meals and breakfasts.
DAY 1 - Picton - Ships Cove to Furneaux Lodge
Approx walking time- 16.5Km's - 5 hours
Pick up from local accommodation 7.30am.
Boat Cruise from Picton. Make your way along the Queen Charlotte Sound, before stopping to visit a protected, predator free island to see rare saddleback birds. Begin the walk at Ships Cove and learn about the historical and natural aspects of this area. Fabulous 360 degree vistas as you walk amongst tree ferns and Nikau palms to your accommodation for this evening at Furneaux Lodge, an historic lodge that has been greeting guests for many years. Accommodation is twin share private en suite chalets.
DAY 2 - Furneaux Lodge to Punga Cove Resort
Approx walking time- 11.5Km's - 4.5 hours
After a relaxed breakfast you make your way around the bay to Punga Cove Resort.
Discover the fascinating antimony mining history of this area.
The highlight of this afternoons walk is the abundance of native bird life along this section of the track. You may even have the opportunity to meet one of New Zealand's cheekiest native birds, the Weka.
Kayaks available once you arrive.
Tonights accommodation at Punga cove is in Koru twin share, private en suite rooms.
DAY 3 - Punga Cove to Portage Hotel
Approx walking time- 23Km's - 7.5 hours
Todays section of the track involves expansive ridge top walking with stunning views for the majority of the day. Considered the most challenging day of the trip yet extremely well rewarding.
For those that feel like a rest, the option of taking a water taxi to lodge to lodge is available (extra cost).
Accommodation this evening is at Portage Hotel in private Weka rooms with attached en suites.
DAY 4 - Portage Resort to Anakiwa - Picton
Approx walking time- 20Km's - 7 hours
Begin the day by walking up to the highest point of the track and one of the most scenic viewpoints.
A mixture of established native beech trees and regenerating forest makes up todays walk. In the afternoon it is an easy stroll down to Anakiwa where you water taxi will take you back to Picton returning about 4pm. We will meet you off the boat in Picton around 4pm and return you to your accommodation in town.
The Five Day Classic Package has an extra night at Portage Hotel where on the 4th day is a rest day at the hotel. The 5th day you then walk out to the end of the track at Anakiwa as above.
